Dr David T. Wakabayashi was born in Tokyo, Japan, as an American citizen.
His father was from Hawaii and played in a Japanese Professional
Baseball team, the Hanshin Tigers. His father is in the Japanese Baseball Hall of Fame in Tokyo
and the Sports Hall of Fame in Hawaii. Dr. Wakabayashi was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army in 1956 and the U.S. Air Force in 1961, after serving in the 6004th Air Intelligence Service Squadron, stationed in Japan. He started school in Japan and attended the University of Hawaii in Honolulu and Sophia University in Tokyo. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree and Optometric Doctorate from the Southern California College of Optometry.
Dr Wakabayashi practices general optometry, but also specializes in challenging contact lens fittings, such as bifocal contact lenses, keratoconus contact lenses, Orthokeratology contact lenses, Corneal Refractive Therapy contact lenses, and many other specialty contact lenses. He also co-manages pre-operational and post-operational LASIK surgery with highly accredited surgery centers. |

Besides having had an office in Garden Grove and one currently in Irvine, he is an Assistant Professor at the Southern California College of Optometry (SCCO) for over 30 years, teaching contact lenses. He has been involved with a number of clinical research activities with many prominent contact lens manufacturers and pharmaceutical companies, such as Ciba Vision Corporation, Alcon Laboratories, Bausch & Lomb, Conforma Labs, Paragon Vision, and Allergan Pharmaceuticals. He is very active with optometric professional organizations. He has served as a president of Omega Delta, a national professional fraternity, the Asian American Optometric Society, and the Orange County Optometric Society. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry, a member of the California Optometric Association, the American Academy of Optometry, and the Association of Optometric Educators. He is also been a director for the Alumni Association of SCCO for over 10 years.
